Although there is no medical treatment for autism, some educational methods provide great improvements in a significant portion of children diagnosed with autism. Among these, the method with the strongest scientific basis is the early and intensive behavioral training method developed by Lovaas in the USA. OÇİDEP (Behavioral Education Program for Autistic Children) is a program launched at Anadolu University Disabled Research Institute, based on the Lovaas method. OÇİDEP consists of a series of behavioral curriculum areas for the main areas of disability in autism and behavioral teaching techniques used to teach the skills in these curriculum areas. The main target audience of OÇİDEP is preschool children with moderate or severe autistic features. In these children, OÇİDEP should be applied for at least 20 hours a week and on a one-to-one basis. On the other hand, certain curriculum areas and teaching techniques included in OÇİDEP can be used effectively in older children with autism and children with milder autistic features.
