Merkez Efendi, who was appointed as the head of the Sultan Mosque Madrasa, built by the Sultan who could not find a cure for his illness, prepared a paste consisting of a mixture of herbs and spices. Hafsa Sultan, who regained her health by eating this paste prepared by mixing 41 types of spices, requests that this paste be given to patients. As the demand from the public increased, he ordered the paste wrapped in paper to be distributed to the public from the domes and minarets of the Sultan Mosque, which he had built. People gather spontaneously in front of the Sultan Mosque every year on March 21, and thus the Manisa Mesir Festival was born.
