Marteniçka is tied to the wrists with wishes for goodness, health, abundance, business and money. When the first stork is seen after the maretnichka is worn, its red and white piece is removed and tied to a fruit-bearing tree. The other part continues to be used as an accessory. It is believed that if a stork is seen while wearing the martenichka, the wishes made while wearing the martenichka will come true. Marteniçka is worn with the same wishes and used as an accessory not only in March but throughout the year.
