METU Reader at Work 1-2 Set Odtü Publications METU Reader at Work 1 Odtü Publications This book is a compilation of the reading sections of the exam papers prepared in the Department of Basic English in the last decade. It is intended to provide students with additional material for EFL reading practice and exam preparation - as it is believed that the reading material in main textbooks is not always sufficient for this purpose. In English-medium academic mainstreams, we believe that reading is extremely important to our students so they should be encouraged to read as much as possible outside of class, and we hope that this book will equip both students and teachers with sufficient tools to highlight reading comprehension and vocabulary development. The material in this book—graded by text difficulty and level of exercises—will meet the needs of our students, from beginner to intermediate, in the first semester. The book contains 204 chapters that will enable every student to read comprehensively at their own level and move on to more challenging texts. In selecting the passages – an attempt was made to include a variety of topics and text types to encourage reading for pleasure. Finally- the material is organized in a way that maintains a reasonable level of consistency in exercise types throughout the book. Although prepared with students of the Department of Basic English in mind, we believe that this book will be helpful to enthusiastic students of English as a foreign language.
