A long time ago, when his grandfather was still young, he plucked a single walnut from a tree near Lake Como in Italy and carried it across a large ocean to a new country on a different continent. As his grandfather starts a family in his new home and grows older, the sapling turns into a walnut tree. Emilia looks at the smaller and younger walnut tree next to the big walnut in the garden: This belongs to her mother. Together they plant a third walnut tree for Emilia, and step by step her grandfather teaches Emilia how to grow her own seed.
